...in a sacred place-of-power, a sanctuary seven river crossings from the nearest road--
an optimum setting for intimate retreats and personal transformation.

A Setting Like None Other

The Earthen Spirituality Project is surrounded and informed by one of the wildest and most magical mountain ecosystems in the continental U.S.: New Mexico’s Gila National Forest.  Our nearest neighbors are the trusting elk, deer, bobcats, turkey, ducks, songbirds and circling eagles.  Creeks and rivers run through pink and vermilion cliffs, featuring the rock-art spirals of the "Old Ones" who came before us.

The property was purchased to protect not only its ecological integrity, but also its spiritual and energetic legacy. The inholding encompasses the house sites and altars of the long vanished Sweet Medicine People (generally known as the Mogollon or Anasazi).  While our primary purpose has been protecting and attending this sanctuary of Spirit and instruction, we feel that a part of our responsibility is to share the uncompromised lessons this specific place has to offer.  A place where illusion and denial give way to the experience of undiluted truth.

Housing for group workshops, private shelters and camping areas are available at all three sites, and guests can choose between taking care of their own camp meals and our offering of Loba’s exemplary home-cooked dishes.  Hiking trails lead from here into some of the most beautiful and least visited mountains of the American Southwest.  Camping, exploring and questing are possible most of the year, thanks to the generally temperate weather.

The few residents of isolated Catron County are sometimes portrayed in the national media as unreasonable and reactionary, but we’ve found our neighbors to be kind and honest people who for all our differences love the land as much as we do.  We’re honored to have earned their respect and friendship, and Wolf writes a regular bridge-building column in the local newspaper.  Because they value liberty and honesty above all, our fellow county residents respect the right of others to express their opinions and live their beliefs.  We ask our guests to treat the locals with the courtesy, deference and consideration that they deserve.
